What we handle
Divorce and family matters
We act in mutual consent divorce, contested divorce and maintenance cases. In a mutual consent divorce under the Hindu Marriage Act, the couple must have lived separately for at least a year before filing a joint petition, and there is normally a six-month gap between the first and second motion, which the court can waive in some cases. We draft the petition and settlement terms and appear with you at each hearing.

If someone owes you money under a loan, invoice or written agreement, we start with a legal notice and, where needed, file a recovery suit. Where the debt is based on a written contract or a cheque, a summary suit under Order XXXVII of the Code of Civil Procedure can be a faster route.

We draft wills and handle probate, letters of administration and succession certificates for families settling an estate after a death.
Cheque bounce cases
A cheque bounce case under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act runs on fixed deadlines. The legal notice must go out within 30 days of the bank informing you that the cheque was returned, the person who issued it then has 15 days to pay, and the complaint must be filed within one month after that. We act for both the person holding the cheque and the person who issued it.
